Increased Sunspot activity 31st July 2011

Above: Constellation of Orion ( 60 second exposure and camera mounted piggyback on tracking mount)

Above: Southern Cross low to the south - 60 second exposure and camera mounted piggyback on tracking mount

The Sun has been very quiet of late. Sunspot activity and numbers have been almost zero for some time.

Gary Gibson managed to image a very small group on the 27th September 2009 with a 4.5-inch scope and safety aperture solar filter.

Tycho Crater

Captured using a Bausch & Lomb 4.5in f/12 SCT and Celestron NexImage CCD camera.

200 frames aligned and stacked with RegiStax & sharpened with Photoshop.

Bird bath pier in the yard converts to stable telescope mount.

Gary Gibson is somewhat of a handyman when it comes to making practical tools for observing. His main interest is in solar imaging a spectroscopy.
